There's some pieces of info that go back to Pendleton and perhaps earlier. This info involves DOBSON, STARRETT, DOVER, CROSS & GOSS (others of importance too). The question is naming patterns back in Pendleton for individuals within the same generation. Bear with me on some of the redundant info. 1840 Walker Co., GA Census Joseph Dobson p. 83 b 1788 per 1850 census Simpson Dover p. 83 b 1795 per 1850 census On July 6, 1834, in Habersham Co., GA, Hezekiah Dover charged Simpson Dover, Joseph Dobson, JR and Phillip Fry with assault & battery. Hezekiah Dover was b abt 1765 NC and was the younger brother of Francis J. Dover of Habersham b 1760 NC. On December 4, 1834, in Habersham Co., GA, Francis J. Dover executed a "gift deed" to Anderson Dover, one of his sons. "Nelly" [Neely?] Dobson was listed as a debtor. 1820 Habersham Co., GA Census CROSS, Thomas 115 DOBSON, Henry 115 DOVER, Anderson 115 Son of FJD DOVER, Francis 115 DOVER, Johnson 115 Son of FJD STARRITT, James 115 James Jr? DOBSON, Joseph 120 Jr? DOBSON, Reily 120 ? Thomas Cross b 1789 NC was married to Francis J. Dover's daughter Rebecca b 1793. Thomas & Rebecca were married 9/12/1812 in Pendleton, SC. Thomas Cross served in the War of 1812 in Capt. Andrew Hamilton's Company, SC Militia. Francis J. Dover was in the Pendleton District of SC as late as 1797 and owned property on or near Golden's Creek/12 Mile River 1810. 1810 Pendleton District, SC Census DOVER, Francis 159 GOSS, Benjamin 159 GOSS, Thomas 159 Capt. Benjamin Goss served in Capt. Andrew Hamilton's Company, SC Militia. Same unit that Thomas Cross served in. His daughter Zilpa married Neely Dobson in Habersham Co., GA. Is Neely Dobson the debtor/friend in Francis J. Dover's deed to Anderson Dover (who by the way ended up in Polk Co., AR). The question is the name of one of Thomas Cross & Rebecca Dover's children .... STARRETT DOBSON CROSS b 1818 (said GA). The naming pattern among contemporaries of the same generation suggests earlier family connections? Interesting too that Starrett D. Cross married Harriett Elizabeth FRY. Other things going on in other parts of 1800 Pendleton 1800 that connect STARRETT and DOVER, but none of the given names with later Habersham (Alexander Starrett & John Dover). Don't know if this provides any clues or not but Hezekiah Dover was listed in the Blue Creek District of the 1840 Habersham census which I think was in the Yonah area and in what was to become White County in 1857. Francis J. Dover and Hezekiah Dover (per FJD’s RS pension hearing in 1832 Habersham) were born on the Haw River in North Carolina. Francis said that he lived 40 miles from Guilford. FJD said in his 2nd hearing that he enlisted in Guilford. The family was in Lincoln/York sometime in the 1780’s.
