Ernie, I am new to the forum and have not read the other postings; however, my incredibly wonderful grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Dobbs, Son of Bennett Dobbs, son of Thomas Jefferson Dobbs of Heflin, Cleburne Co, Ala.

My great aunt, Wannie Lossie Dobbs of Colorado City, Texas, told me that when she was a small child, her father, Bennett, took her to Tupelo, MS. to see the Dobbs family graves.

Bennett married Francis Louisa Butler, who, indeed was 1/2 [Lower]Creek Indian. Her mother was Sarah Elizabeth Bryant Butler, b. 5-1834, d. 1908, buried at Oaklawn Cemetery, Cooper, Texas, next to her other daughter, Amanda Jane Hickman and her son by her first marriage to Charles Jordan. Sarah E. married Napoleon Bonaparte Butler in Plesant Site, Ala., after her 1st husband, who was 1/2 Indian and 1/2 English, went back to Georgia to check on their families during the last of the Indian wars run by Andrew "Mad Dog" Jackson. He never returned and was presumed dead. She was left with Warren about 16, Alec, Henry and Rhoda, age 8.

Thereafter she married Mr. Butler of English decent, recently escaped from a Yankee prison, who had returned to his parents at Pleasant Site. Elizabeth was 11 years older than he, and a highly interesting person.

They had two daughters mentioned above before Mr. Butler died from infirmities suffered in the Civil War as a Confederate.

If you have more lineage information, I would love to hear from you. My g-grandfather, Bennett Dobbs, had at least two brothers, Newton and George, who also moved to Texas.

Hope to hear from and will share Indian stories.
