Mark: I just found the following reference from the book "TN Confederate Widows and Their Families, " pub. 1992, by Edna Wiefering: Entry 338: Samantha E. (Hunter) Dobbs, resided Sumner Co.,TN, born 1845, Sumner Co.,TN, widow of James Chelsey (I'm sure this should be "Chesley") Dobbs, born 1842, Illinois. Married 1866, Sumner Co., TN; James died 1898, Sumner Co., TN
My 5th greatgrandfather was Chesley Dobbs, born 1749, Culpeper Co., VA, married Hannah Scott 25 Dec 1784, Fauquier Co., VA; served as a minuteman during the Revolutionary War. He had 10 known children born in Burke Co., NC; may have had more, though not proven. Chesley died 25 Jan 1834, Claiborne Co., TN. Moved to Claiborne Co. while his children were young. I would be surprised if there wasn't some connection between these families. Karen Tumbleson
