Seeking info on my ancestor Chesley Scott DOBBS 1817-1872 b. Claiborne County, TN, d. Palo Pinto County, TX, md. Melanie SKIDMORE in Benton County, Ark. in 1844. Info on early DOBBS lineage comes from a letter written by a Dobbs descendant in 1920 as follows: Joe Dobbs had 3 sons- Jonathan Lee Sr., George and William. Jonathan Lee md Nancy BARNARD and they had 8 children: Chesley Scott (my ancestor), Sarah Ann (md Joseph A. HARBERT in MO in 1845- he later died in the Civil War), James A. md Ann Unknown, who died in 1860 in Falls County, TX), John (or Arch)(b. in KY), George B. (md Laura Anna PRICE in Young County TX in 1864), Jonathan Lee (Lee)Jr. (md Rebecca JOHNSON- they lived in Young County, TX), William M. (md Elizabeth JOHNSON, Rebecca's sister, in Young County, TX), and Nancy A. Dobbs.
My ancestor is not the Chesley Dobbs who was the son of Arthur Dobbs, the governor of NC in the 1700s. I have not been able to establish any connection between the two lines.
