I am having trouble following your question. To make it easier to follow my comments, I have added letters following the names of each of the people that you mentioned. With that addition, your question reads:
"I have been doing some more research on William (A) 1740. I have come up with the following Richard Dobyns (B) father of William (C) Dobyns born 1640 father of Drury (D) and Daniel (E) Sr. married Eliza Smith, father of Daniel (F) Jr. b 1712 married Boulware father of Richard (G), Daniel (H), Edmond (I), Charles (J), and William (K) 1740. Now I found a family history to sum it up make it shorter, says there were 6 families of Dobyns in Richmond VA that spell their name Dobyns, 5 families in the valley county of Frederick that spell it Dobbins in the year of 1790. They were Griffith (L), Griffith (M), Thomas (N), Edward (O), William (P) heads of household. There is no other William that fits the dates. Especially now knowing it was with him that the spelling was changed. This author makes it clear that the Dobyns that stayed in the Richmond area were upstanding and prominent people. They were college grads, and we know that William signed with a X. I am thinking these children came from one woman maybe Daniel's (Q) wife Boulware? She is not mentioned in his will. Where was she? Let me know what you think. Lisa"
What is the name of the family history that you found?
I read this to mean that William (A) was the William Dobbins, born 1740, who married Susannah Collins about 1760 in Granville County NC.I have never researched this William Dobbins myself, but I have been told that he was in North Carolina by 1760.Later, when you write of William (C) Dobyns born 1640, I have to assume that you mean the same William Dobbins, born 1740.William, born 1740, was the father of Rev. Drury Dobbins, whom I assume to be the Drury (D) that you say was the son of William. Here the recitation is a bit confusing, but I assume that "Daniel (E) Sr. married Eliza Smith, father of Daniel (F) Jr. b 1712 married Boulware father of Richard (G), Daniel (H), Edmond (I), Charles (J), and William (K) 1740" means that Daniel (E) is Daniel the emigrant, who died in 1712 or 1713, that Eliza Smith refers to the second wife of Daniel the emigrant, and that Daniel (F) refers to the son of Daniel the emigrant by his first wife who was probably Elizabeth Dudding. However, this son Daniel was born about 1682, not 1712. The son Daniel did apparently marry Elizabeth Bowler or Boulware and had children Bowler Dobyns, Thomas Dobyns, Richard Dobyns, William Dobyns and possibly Daniel Dobyns.I assume that Richard (G), Daniel (H) and William (K) are three of the possible five sons of Daniel son of Daniel the emigrant.I have no idea how to fit Edmond (I) and Charles (J) into this family.Daniel the emigrant had sons Edmund and Charles, but Daniel, son of Daniel the emigrant, had no such sons.
You also state that you have found that there were five families in the valley county of Frederick that spell it Dobbins in the year of 1790. They were Griffith (L), Griffith (M), Thomas (N), Edward (O), William (P) heads of household.I doubt that these were all in 1790, but probably in the 1780s.My ancestor Griffin Dobyns was listed in the Shenandoah Co. enumeration in 1783 and also in 1785 as one of the heads of families, but by 1788, he had moved to Bedford Co. VA.That probably takes care of Griffith (L) and Griffith (M).William Dobyns son of Daniel, son of Daniel the emigrant, lived in Frederick Co VA where he signed a deed of gift in 1748.If you assume that he was born in 1740, that would make him eight years old when he signed the deed, so this William was not William, born 1740.Samuel Dobyns, who was a brother of the Griffin Dobyns who appeared in the Shenandoah Co records, also lived in Frederick Co.Thomas (N) and Edward (O) may have been children of Samuel or William, but there is no proof.
However you read it, it is unlikely that anyone who was in Frederick Co VA in the 1780s or 1790 was living in North Carolina by 1760.I think you have to look elsewhere for the parents of William, born 1740.
