Hi Paul, I am from the Doan (Doane) family. I always thought that the spelling of the name Doan with the e dropped, was because those Doanes who went to Canada dropped the e in their name, either because they chose to or in Canada the people there dropped it. I just know that all of the Doan's from Canada are spelled with out the e.
