Janet - Don't know if this will be of any help.
I found a Byron Joshua Doan born 1838 m June 9, 1859 to Anna Elizabeth Minard. She is the daughter of Samuel and Rachel (Moore) Minard.Bryon is living in Yarmouth at the time of his birth and his marriage. This came from the book Doan's of Southwestern Ontario.
The 1861 Census has a Bryon Doan living in Bayham Twp with a wife and 1 year old daughter.
Ancestry.ca has a Mortality Schedule indicating that one Bryon G. Doan died February 23, 1870 in Speaker, Sanilac, Michigan. He was born in Canada in about 1838.
Rootsweb.com has a number of family trees for Joshua Gillam Doan and Fanny Minard with their son Bryon listed. They all show a death date of February 1870 but also have children - listing him as the father - being born up to 14 years after his death.
Quite a number of Doan families moved from the Elgin County area to the Sanilac area of Michigan in the mid-1860's.My family Nathan and Deborah (Goodwin) Doan were among those who moved.I believe my gggggrandfather Nathan and Bryon's father Joshua may have been friends as they were both from the Sparta, Ontario area and both appear to have been involved in the 1837 Rebellion.Nathan is mentioned in some of the rebellion documents and he is the only Nathan living in the area at the time.Joshua - Bryon's father - is ultimately hung for his involvement in the uprising. At the very least I know they were cousins as Joshua and Nathan are both the ggrandsons of Israel Doan through his sons Elijah and Joseph respectively.
I hope this gives you a few leads. Please let me know if I can be of any other assistance.
Nancy
