James:I guess the reason is idle curiosity. When I posted the earlier message (a long time ago!)I was beginning to explore the internet for my own family research and practiced looking at all kinds of names. Doak was one of them, partly I think because of the nice bookplate. The books are Montgomery's records of his campaigns in Europe and I bought them in an antiquarian bookseller's in Sackville St. Piccadilly in the mid-70s. I am interested in the history of WW2, but now much more interested in WW1 because of family research. Is the coat of arms on the bookplate your family's? I'm pleased you have made contact and there seems to be no doubt that your father purchased one of the books, and maybe both. Contact again if I can help with any more info. Regards. Peter
