Hi John

I note that our name still tends to be very regional in it's distribution - DOAK families in the UK. For example if you the use the phone directories as indicators then there seems to be quite a decline in the number of Doak families in Scotland but still a reasonable number of Doaks resident in N Ireland – (particularly concentrated around Ballymena and Belfast)

In Scotland most Doaks still seem to live in the region of the Forth & Clyde valley. (Just as they historically did for the last 300 yrs).

My brother Andrew A.J.Doak@reading.ac.uk has a reasonably well mapped history (Family tree) of our Branch of the family from it’s roots in Ayrshire in the 17th Century; with the Doak families taking their weaving skills into the Glasgow during the early Industrial Revolution (1800 or so) and settling there in Glasgow until the 1960’s when they started to re locate into the new towns such as Cumbernauld and East Kilbride.

Other Doaks in England now seem to be fairly well; if but lightly scattered and living in all the main English cities, but there are no concentrates like in Belfast or Glasgow. These “English” Doaks must owe their origins to Scotland and Ireland.

If you want any help I am sure that between us we can pass you onto other contacts in the Doak network. I have a couple of contacts that have done work on the family in Ayrshire

Hope this helps.

Robert
