Mexican Surname Project
I requested that Genealogy.com create a Moctezuma forum a couple of months ago, but got no response:(
If anyone else thinks this is a good idea please contact the powers that be.
I sent both Y and Mitrochondial DNA samples on Monday to the Mexico Surname Project in Houston, Texas. I just got an email today, Wednesday, confirming receipt of my specimen. I was pleased that it got there so fast, and that they confirmed it for me.
You can check out their site at:

The website says most of our Latin American surnames are incorrect because so many of our ancestors have taken their maternal surnames, and even the surnames of their grandparents, that we have lost track of who we really are.
They will compare my test results with genetically verified surnames and tell me what my last name should be. I'm very excited about the whole process.
Contributing a DNA specimen is easy, and painless. I just scrapped the inside of my check for a few seconds and deposited the result in a tiny test tube and mailed it in. Nothing could be simpler.
They have 11,000 samples in the database! The more they get the more we will know about our common Hispanic ancestry, and perhaps, about Petronila Moctezuma!
