I think most people would recommend the Marligen test over the Genographic Project's male test. They both are about the same price, but the former also tests for subgroups. It is offered by DNAHeritage (www.dnaheritage.com) and EthnoAncestry (www.ethnoancestry.com).
The Genographic Project actually tests regular Y-STR genealogical markers initially and tries to match the results with their database. If they get a close enough match, they don't tests for the SNPs that actually define haplogroups. The other one tests the SNPs, so a person always gets an actual, rather than an estimated, haplogroup.
