I'm going through the same thing. My maternal great-grandfather never knew (or was never acknowledged) by his biological father.

A male cousin took the Y-DNA test through Ancestry.com. His results came back R1b. I'm told that this is a common halpogroup.

I keep seeing the website YSearch. Not sure how it works or whether it's worth the effort. I'd like to check it out.
