DNA Testing Questions

The DNA tests can't distinguish which parent contributed which allele (alternative version of a marker) for any of the chromosomes that come in matching pairs, or for the X in females. The results are given as "genotypes" with the alleles in an arbitrary order, usually alphabetical. For instance, the results for a marker called rs1003351 might be AA (both parents have an A), or GG (both parents have a G), or AG (one parent has an A and the other a G, but we don't know which is which).
