Need Help -- Clueless about DNA testing
I know nothing about DNA testing.I have to be honest, I have images of Boys From Brazil and of mad scientists creating mutated white mice.
But I know it's used to identify victims and criminals.
My great grandmother was a runaway in the early 1900s.She used 2 maiden names, and I can't find info on either. She hid her identity on purpose, and she is driving me nuts.
Purely maternal line. She was my mother's mother's mother.
I understand surnames are worthless in maternal lines.
If I submit DNA is there a test where my sample is just "thrown in the mix" and a match can be made to another descendent of a common ancestor of my great grandmother? And then we'd be able to compare notes and I could maybe find out who the heck my great grandmother really was?
Or am I watching too many Sci-Fi movies?
