Wright Family DNA Results Of Interest
Dear List,
I thought members of this list would be interested in the following results from the Wright Family DNA Project.
The parents of John Wright (Goochland County, Virginia, Carpenter) have not as yet been determined. This John Wright resided from 1739 to 1772 in Goochland County, Virginia.
The parents of 1767 (year of death) Francis Wright of Amherst County, Virginia, (place of death) have also not as yet been determined. This Francis Wright resided in the 1740's in Louisa County, Virginia, and from 1750 to 1767 in Amherst County, Virginia.
Prior to Y-DNA sequencing, there was no known connection between these two Wright lines.
The Wright DNA Project at http://www.wright-dna.org/http://www.wright-dna.org/ has posted results that show that the DNA sequencing of two descendants of John Wright (Goochland County, Virginia, Carpenter) match with one mutation at the 37 marker level the sequencing of three descendants of 1767 Francis Wright of Amherst County, Virginia.
With this DNA sequencing, we now know that John Wright (Goochland County, Virginia, Carpenter) and 1767 Francis Wright of Amherst County, Virginia, were probably related and probably fairly closely in time. This result was a surprise to researchers of both families and suggested a direction for research for both lines that had not been considered previously. That line of research related to the following information:
1690 Francis Wright of Lancaster County, Virginia, had sons Francis Wright, Jr., Charles, and John.
1690 Francis Wright's son Francis Wright, Jr., was an adult in 1697 and moved away from Lancaster County in about 1718. 1767 Francis Wright first appeared in Louisa County in 1742.Louisa County was formed in 1742 from Hanover County.I have speculated that Francis Wright, Jr., might be the father of 1767 Francis Wright, based on the following circumstantial evidence.Francis Wright, Jr., had a wife Anne and 1767 Francis Wright of Amherst County named one of his daughters Anne.Francis Wright, Jr., had married Anne _____ by March 1707 and 1767 Francis Wright of Amherst County was born before 1711.
1690 Francis Wright's son John Wright has been identified as 1730 John Wright of Goochland County, Virginia, who married Elizabeth Meredith. The land of 1730 John Wright of Goochland County, Virginia, was south of the James River in Goochland County. The land of John Wright (Goochland County, Virginia, Carpenter) was north of the James River in Goochland County, near to Louisa County. Both John Wrights named one of their sons Francis Wright.
1690 Francis Wright of Lancaster County, Virginia, might have had a brother John Wright, based on John Wright acting as the appraiser of 1690 Francis Wright's estate. That John Wright was described in Lancaster County court records as a bricklayer and possibly as a plasterer (the bricklayer and the plasterer might be two different John Wrights and might be father and son).John Wright (Goochland County, Virginia, Carpenter) was, of course, a carpenter. The similarity of trades is suggestive.
Obviously, more research is required to determine what the connections are among 1690 Francis Wright of Lancaster County, Virginia, Francis Wright, Jr., 1767 Francis Wright of Amherst County, Virginia, John Wright (Lancaster County, Virginia, Bricklayer and/or Plasterer) and John Wright (Goochland County, Virginia, Carpenter). The search for documentation to confirm these relationships is now focused on Hanover County and King William County, Virginia, two burned record counties. If it were not for the DNA sequencing results, I suspect our efforts would never have led in that direction.
Just thought other researchers might find all of this of interest and hope it encourages others to pursue the Y-DNA sequencing as part of their research.
Best wishes,
