I have to disagee on one book. Ann and Megan's book is the best overview of ancestral DNA testing that I have read. It is not very technical, so it is an easy read for beginners.

However, they viewed all tests and methodologies with an uncritical eye, probably an appropriate course since there are many different opinions. Nonetheless, readers should solicit views on the various options, since a lot of money can be wasted with the wrong choice. Each person will have different goals and preferences.

I am one of those traditional genealogists who favors testing only for methodical family tree studies. However, there are many others who are interested in surname relatedness studies and ancient ancestry.
