About all that DNA can do is put you in contact with database matches who might have information that matches what you know about your grandfather. STR results are really all you need, until you identify possible close relatives. It is possible that a close match could be in a different haplogroup, in which case the haplogroup results would be helpful in eliminating candidates. It is a needle in a haystack, but has proved successful in at least one case.
