FTDNA - mtDNA test...how specific is it?
I am giving some consideration into taking an mtDNA test and have recently visited FTDNA website to try and gain more knowledge about the differences between the 3 main mtDNA tests I see (mtDNA, mtDNA Plus, and mtFull Sequence).
Since all 3 say they provide a panel of 22 SNP's and give the Ethnic and Geographic origin of the Mother's line, my question just how Specific are these results as to Ethnicity and Geography?
I am mostly Scot-Irish with a bit of English and a tad of Native American thrown in and am wondering if the test results will be This "ethnic" specific.
Also will the test results tell me Where on the Globe my maternal ancestors came from or will it be just the general "eastern or western Europe" type of answers?
Also I noted the great sway in the price range of these 3 tests, with the "Full Sequence" testing and the much higher price tag, just what else can I gain to learn from choosing that particular test over the other two much less expensive ones (comparitively speaking that is...none of them are inexpensive).
Thank You very much for help from those who have already taken this test and can share details Hopefully in more laymans terms than the website offers.
(I don't understand what they mean by HVR1 and 2 etc.)
