There is no need to "mix" saliva samples.A kit would be sent to a male cousin (if you want to test the paternal line) and he would brush the inner cheek and return the brush in the container supplied to him. His Y would be what you got from your common male ancestor. That & the cost of a hundred or two hundred dollars or so would be all that is required.Why not test your all-maternal line?My guess is that any American Indian ancestry would more likely show up there.But you are only testing one line in a zillion, not your whole maternal ancestry.It is pretty exciting, however, to get that information from thousands ofyears ago(as you might note by reading "The Seven Daughters of Eve" by Bryan Sykes of Oxford).HFS
