What is the origin of this Y-Chromosome
Hello,
My cousin (who is a male McNeill) had his DNA tested with the Clan MacNeil DNA Project. He is #35676 in the project. http://www.familytreedna.com/public/MacNeilhttp://www.familytreedna.com/public/MacNeil
I used the Haplo-I Subclade Predictor and it said that the McNeill Y-DNA line was in-between I1-AS5 and I1-AS6. I have read that these to varieties are rare. I also have read that I1-"AngloSaxon" is just the default form of I1 in Europe. I am very curious to as of what the origin of our Y-DNA ancestors is be it a Viking or any other Germanic group that settled Scotland. Does anyone have an idea of what the origin might be with a Scots name of McNeill?
Justin
