Until recent times, the marriage between first cousins was considered a good thing.They 'kept' all those good genes for themselves.If it was really hazardous someone would have made the connection earlier.It is not really hazardous unless you carry a dangerous gene.It wasn't until the royal family of Europe, the Hapsburgs,was discovered to be loaded with hemophiliacs that it occurred to the world maybe that intermarriage was not a good thing.The Hapsburgs had closely intermarried for centuries before they started bleeding to death.
All the monarchs of Europe used to be closely related.Alliances were always sealed with a marriage.
