It is passed on to future generations.
I haven't seen any rate studies on recLOH mutation rates. However, they seem to be equivalent to a very slow marker or maybeslower. Thus, I would hazzard a guess that there is only a very slight chance that we would find two independent (parallel) recLOHs in the time period since surnames came into use. At least,I haven't seen any reports of anyone's finding such a case. Thus, I would use one as a tag.
