Hi Robert
Thank you for responding.I probably worded my earlier message oddly. My father took a DNA test as part of the Thurman surname project. This is what the results said for his "Haplotype and Description" and "1st Mutation":
R1b - the most common of the European haplogroups. The haplogroup is believed to have expandedthroughout Europe as humans recolonized after the last ice age 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the atlantic modal haplotype.
1st Mutation - Polynesian
What I'm trying to determine is the meaning of the 1st mutation to the haplogroup.Does the first mutation occur within the last 20 generations from my father? And how does that happen to the male DNA?Does that mean that one of my father's male ancestors within the last 20 generations married a female that had polynesian blood?Trying to understand how that mutation happens.
Thanks again
Deborah
