66 of 67 match - different surname
We have just received a 66 of 67 match with someone of a different surname.
To make it more interesting, my family is in GA from 1849 (unknown before that) and his is from VA/KY/IN and seems well documented back to the early 1700s.
Since this is such a close DNA match we certainly intend to try to figure this out but could use some "expert" advice.
Does this mean that we should look only at the direct father to father to father line in each family or is it possible that the brothers of these direct lines could be involved in what ever the event here was.
I think we need to see if there are prior marriages for the wives to see if it is possible a child could be born to one father and take the name of the next husband.
Does anyone have any experience with this kind of match?
Any advice will certainly be much appreciated since all of us are new to the DNA testing process and don't quite know where to start other than traditional genealogy work on both sides...
Thanks for your help
