If you go to ancestry.com and look at the SSDI, which is free, you can look up William Dixon.
Sometimes you have to know how to manipulate this data base. But if he had a social security number he should be listed. You can click on it and it will generate a letter to social security and you can send it in with a fee and get a xerox copy of his original application, But it takes a few weeks of waiting and they just increased those fees by quite a lot. The application has blanks for the person to fill in where they were born and who their parents were.
The online SSDI has some 60,000,000 people listed who died since the 1960's
