I don't know if we have a connection, but your mention of Beaufort CO. and the name Walter makes me think there might be a link to the Dixons I' looking for.
I have a Sarah Dixon born ca 1740-1750 who married first to Stephen Mundine and second to James Wainwright in Pitt Co in mid 1700's.
Sarah's parents were Walter and Elizabeth Dixon. Walter Dixon's will in Pitt Co. dated 1767. He apparently first received a land grant/patent in Beaufort Co. in 1730's.
This is all I know. Let me know if you think we may be talking about the same family.
Tracy
