Dixon Ireland-1815>Ontario-1856>
Dixon> Ireland, Peterborough and Toronto
James Dixon shows up on the 1871 Census for Ontario with his wife Ceclia, three children,
his mother Margaret and his brother John. James, his mother and his brother were all born in Ireland. Ceclia and the children were born in Ontario. James was born in 1837 and Ceclia was born in 1834. Going by his oldest son's birth in 1857 means that he probably married Ceclia in 1856 when he was 19 and she was 23. Margaret the mother was born in 1815 and his brother John was born in 1850. If his brother was born in 1850 in Ireland and James was married in 1856 in Ontario, we can assume that he and his mother and brother arrived in Canada between
1851 to 1855. In 1871 he put down on the census that he was a Principal of a Collegiate. The family has two urn's that prove this to be so. He was in fact the first Principal of Peterborough
Colligate.
As of the 1871 census he had three sons, Ormiston V. born 1857 Ontario, William A.
born 1862 Ontario and my Great Grandfather Herbert Spencer born 1868 Ontario.
My Great Grandparents Herbert Spencer Dixon and May Insley had three children,
my GrandfatherHerbert Ormiston born 1900 Muskoka District, Vernon and Marita. The last time Herbert Ormiston Dixon was seen, was in 1954 in Toronto, Ontario. We do not know if he is dead or alive. If anybody has any information please e-mail me.
