Dear Carol Grennan and/or Dori Ditty:
My name is Sharon Lustro and I am from Pomona, California.
I have been researching the Amos Ditty family for about the last 10 months for a research project for both U. C. Berkeley and Pomona Unified School District. Amos Ditty was a farmer in Illinois, but he could have also lived in Ohio.
One source I found listed Ohio as his bithplace, while another lists Illinois. This is the same man because they sources I have lists his birth year as 1817 or 1820. His first wife was Frances Caudle, and his second wife was Catherine Harmon Malone. Catherine had 5 children from a previous marriage to Carson Cashion Malone. They are: Eliza, Sarah, James, and two other unnamed children. Then she married Amos Ditty 22 Nov 1860 in RCI. They had the following children: Amanda, Amos Jr., Fannie, and Anna Ditty.
Amos Ditty, Jr. (b1867) married Margaret L. McNabney 26 Jun 1894. They had two sons: Cecil Amos (b. 1895) and James (b. 1898). This Ditty family moved to Pomona, Ca. in approximately 1905 or 1906 (according to local telephone books.
