My great-grandmother, Hannah Freathy, married Robert Ditton on 15.1.1877 at Mile Town, Sheerness. Robert Ditton was a fisherman, illiterate, aged 38 and his father was William Ditton, also a fisherman. The marriage produced a child, Agnes Maria Ditton, born 1.1.1878 at Lydd, Kent. Hannah Ditton's family all lived at Lydd. My grandmother became Agnes Maria Prebble, had one child my mother Agnes Mary (now Imm and still alive at 85). I was born 1941 Angela Mary Imm (now Smith) and I have a sister Rosemary Anne Imm (now Mottershead) born 1944. Robert Ditton died on 4.5.1878 when my grandmother was 4 months old and Hannah Ditton went on to re-marry, dying herself in 1888. We have been unable to find anything further about the Dittons, but it does not seem as if they originated from the Ditton families around Appledore in Kent. I have a birth certificate for a Robert Ditton born 1839, father William Ditton which would fit in date-wise, but this William Ditton was a smith by trade and literate, so it doesn't seem to fit in. Can anyone help? Angela Smith Notify Administrator about this message?
