Thanks for the "really fast" follow-up. My daughter's grandmother was Amelia (Dittman) Ackman, born Dec. 13, 1917 in Duluth, daughter of William and Ada. Amelia was adopted by a family in Rochester when she was young. Amelia died July 30, 1995 in IL. (and never revealed much about her family). I had contact by phone with Richard's wife in Fargo, about a yr. ago and she filled me in on some of the history of her husband's family.
On Amelia's marriage license to Lew Ackman (b. Waseca), she states her mother's maiden name as Ada Johnson, and on a copy of Richard's and Amelia's birth cert. it states their mother's name as Ada Hokanson and father's name as William Fred Dittman. So she may have remarried by 1936. I know at one time, Amelia made contact with Richard, but I don't know if she had contact with any of the sisters. I heard there was another brother, that no one was ever able to find. Do you by chance have a death date for Wm Dittman? I have in my notes somewhere that Ada gave birth to 8 children and 5 survived, and were either adopted by other families or became Wards of the State. Thanks for returning my message.
