Ruth,
I have a ggfather, John curd dittmer, born in northern Germany in 1841. He came to Adams County, Illinois (Quincy area)and married Anna Christine Ackerman(n). John Curd or Curd or John ... died in 1881. they had 9 children. I am so frustrated with this search for him!!!
