I just read your reply to my query re: James Dismukes b. abt 1750 Caroline Co., VA.

My cousin's DAR papers listed the children of James Dismukes and Achaeh Tuffe Fottrell as:
Joseph b. 1771
Mary (Polly b. 1775
Sarah (Sally) b. 1777
William b. 1779
Anny b. 1784

These appear to be the same cheldren as those listed in the abstract of the will of James Dismukes d. 8 Feb 1810 Garrard Co., Ky. His wife is listed as Geny Dismukes.

There is a will for Jenny Dismukes dated 8 Nov 1819, recorded Mpv 1819 in Will Book E, page 1. This will lists daughter, Ann Compton, wife of Burrus Compton; exectr Burrus Compton; witnesses Charles Spillman, Charles Ison, Joseph Hedrick.

Are Geny and Jenny nicknames for Jane?

I found an Achaeh Tuffe Fottrell (first name spelled slightly differently, but found no connection with James Dismukes. She was apparently married twice - to Tuffe and Fottrell.

Do you have proof in addition to the wills that Jane Smith was the wife of James Dismukes?

Elizabeth Brewer
