Hi
I was just browsing through the Dishman site. Haven't been here for a long bit of time. Anyway, I did a search regarding Silas and your posting popped up. Silas Dishman (son of James)Iredell County NC, was my gg grandfather. His son, Adolphus, was my g grandfather. At some point in time I also noticed the split in the family. The children were all sent to live with different family members. The reason is unknown to me. Although I would love to know why. Due to the period of time that all took place, I would have reason to believe that smallpox might of had something to do with the situation. Maybe you could enlighten me. This has been the most difficult family to trace. For your records, Adolphus ended up living in Johnson County Tn. In the end, he had married 4 times total. Amazing! He did marry a Mary Shoemaker and had a son Abraham prior to moving to TN. However when moving to TN his wife was not with him. I don't have a clue as to what happened to her. Approximately 2 years ago I had the chance to do a short period of research in Iredell County and found alot of information however I never found Shoemaker Mountain. Supposedly there are several Dishman Lots there. Maybe one day I can return.
