Johannes Sluiter came to America when he was eight years old - from Emden Germany (1869). He came to live with his Uncle John Dirksen who had a farm in German Valley, Illinois and ran a blacksmith shop. John Dirksen adopted Johannes Sluiter and gave him the new name of John Dirksen, Jr. Diricus Dirksen is the one who came from Germany (Ostfriesland) There is still a silversmith shop (we are told) that bears the name Dirksen and one of the Dirksens, I believe Diricus, started the Silver Creek Reform Church in Illinois. (He was tarred and feathered for his troubles). This is sketchy I know, but Here is the direct line as I have it thus far: Diricus Dirksen m. Weubbina Stockman children: Seifke Dirksen Bertha Dirksen Rena Johanna Dirksen Seifke m. Renska Warring children: Rena Dirksen Bertha Dirksen Hermina Dirksen Hermina Dirksen married Johannes Sluiter-who was actually Dirksen by adoption from his Uncle John Dirksen. (Cousins??) So her name actually stayed Dirksen in marriage to Johannes Dirksen (Sluiter). They had one child: Edwin Dirksen Edwin m. Gladys Irvil Chichester children: Garth Frederick Dirksen Vivian Dirksen Rolland Edwin Dirksen Merlyn Myron Dirksen Jack Darrell Dirksen Garth m. Dorothy Ricchio and thats where I come into the picture! Laurie A. Dirksen Can anyone connect with these names?? email me if you have any leads. Posting is okay too, but I don't get here much these days. Thanks much! Laurie Notify Administrator about this message?
