Hello! My name is Debbie (Dirksen) Day and my great grandfather came from Ostfriesland. His name was John Dirksen, he had brothers named Rinder, Cornelius, Ole, and Henry. Henry died in Germany before he could emigrate, however my great grandfather came to America in 1880 or thereabouts. His remaining brothers also emigrated. Rinder moved to Illinois, Ole and Cornelius moved to Iowa not far from John. I know that Cornelius was born in Visquard, Germany and that John left from the port of Emden. Their parents names were John Dirksen and Anna Olka. My great grandfather John married Tena Jurgens in 1882, daughter of Jurgen (Jurren) Cornelius Jurgens and Margaretha Klassen who emigrated to Iowa in 1875. They were the parents of Cornelius, George, Anna, Margaret, John, Ole, Henry, Elizabeth, Herman and Rhinehard. Cornelius was my grandfather. My father was John, the oldest son of Cornelius. I'm trying to establish some connection to Germany but this is all I've been able to find so far.
