My: William Dewoody m. Hannah Alexander on 26 March 1791 in Washington Co.,TN. William was born c.1768 and died c.1826. Hannah was born 1768 in Gettysburg, PA and died before 1818 in Greenville, TN
Their daughter, Sarah Gilmer Dewoody m. Shields Booker in Limestone, AL on 27 Dec. 1826-7. Sarah was born 17 July 1810 in Greene Co., Greenville, TN.
I have been told that the various spellings are interchangeable. The census takers spelled phonetically and sometimes the spellings stuck.
Earlier today I could not log on to the forum for some reason, so I was looking around and found a Robert Dinwiddie, who died in Bath, VA. 4 Oct. 1796. He was married to Elizabeth Wilson whose father Stephen was born in Ireland c.1735 and died in 1804 in Gallin, Ohio. Robert and Eliz. Dinwiddie had the following children: William, John, James, Eliz., Mary and James. This family was to late for it to be my William, but perhaps the info may be useful to someone else.
