I am now living in Congo Brazzaville but originated in the north of England. There is a village of a few houses near Lockerbie in Scotland, called Dinwoodie. Someone who has researched the name left a family history at the main house there. It seems that the DUN or DIN means fort and the WOODIEor variation is linked with the word wythie meaning willow. The land was granted to one Adam for services rendered to Robert the Bruce and so the name was orginally the name of the land - hence Adam of Dunwoodie. There is a coat of arms with a severed head, upside down, with a willow twig in the mouth. This is on the main house in the village, situated on the hill where the old fort used to be. The family married into the Maxwell clan and many were deported to Ireland as sheep stealers. Others went south into the border lands. There is a lot of information but others may be able to add more. My copy is in England!
Hope this helps.
