I agree with those of you who claim Lt. Gov.
Robert Dinwiddie of Coloinal Virginia left no male heirs. My sister has a book she purchased in Williamsburg several years ago with a detailed account of his life. He went to Bermuda for a while with his wife and two daughters, then later returned to England where he died, I believe near Bath.

I believe the confusion ensues due to the fact that Gov. Dinwiddie had a nephew named Robert who left many descendents in this country. I descend from this Robert Dinwiddie of Amhearst Co. Va. His father was Laurence Dinwiddie, Son of Robert Dinwiddie who ran a counting house in Glasgow, Scotland. These Dinwiddie's originated in the Dumfrieshire area near the border with England.

Several Dinwiddies in the USA are related to the Governor; but I don't see how any of them can claim to be direct descendents.

Dan Dinwiddie
