Judy,Mr Freeman had some of it right.I haven't read his book, but I can tell you that David's younger brother, William was my ancestor. He was born in Ulster ca. 1726 and migrated with brothers, Hugh & David and their mother Sarah. She died in 1744 and is buried in McClellan Cemetery near Gettysburg.William married Elizabeth McWilliams probably in Marsh Creek (Gettysburg) abt. 1750.They migrated to Bedford Co., VA, then to Greenbrier, WVA and finally to Scott Co., KY where they died abt 1811.They had 6 or 7 children.
William DeWoody is a different family.I thought he was a cousin of my William, but I have been in contact with a person who swears that the name was DeWoody from VA and possible PA and that from TN the descendants moved on to AL.
There were Dinwiddies in Greene Co., VA.They were cousins of my William.I have a lot of info on this whole family. If you would like to write me at [email protected], I hope we can exchange more info.
