Maggie,

My GG-Grandfather was Frederick Newton Dinkle. His Father was Peter Dinkle (B. about 1813 according to 1850 census for Rockingham Co.). Family lore indicates Peter's father was Frederick Dinkle (son of Johann Daniel Dinkle) and his mother was Polly Shroyer. I have not been able to prove this connection.
Some other Dinkle anomolies causing me some frustration:
The death of a Peter Dinkle is recorded in Rockingham Co. in 1864 age 55 years. This would seem indicate that this Peter is the son of Frederick not the son of Johann Daniel. If it were Johann Daniel's son the age should be nearly 120. The death record also indicates the mothers name as Mary (no fathers name is listed). Frederick's wife was Polly Shroyer. My thought here is that Polly's name may be Mary. Polly being a nickname. (I have 1 known case of this occuring in the late 1700's).

The info I have indicates the Dinkle's came from Germany in 1753. But, I also have info that says Johann and Maria had a daughter Maria Catharina born in 1746 in York, PA? and a daughter Maria Dorothea born in 1748 in York, PA? Obviously I'm wrong somewhere.

If you have any info that could help, I would very much appreciate it.
