Hi Lori! I know of the Johanna Dinan you are realted to. If my information is correct, she was formerly Johanna(Annie) Sweeney and did indeed marry Thomas Dinan on November 13, 1890 at St.Charles Church in Bellows Falls, Vt.Which side of the family are you related to...Dinan or Sweeney???? As I said in my Dec 2004 notice, somehow the Dinans are involved in my mother's family also. My mom's godfather was a Thomas Dinan, and there also seems to be an indication that one of my grandmother's sisters married a Dinan but I can't find any record of it in VT, NH or MA.
The Thomas I speak of was forn in 1864 to Michael and Johanna Finn Dinan. He had a brother James born in 1861 and who died in 1945. Another of my mom's sisters had a godmother whose maiden name was Mary Agnes Dynan and she married a gentlemen named Pheur. Mary Agnes was born in 1881 in Shanagarry, County Cork, Ireland. That is where my grandparents originated from in 1901...the area of Ladysbridge!!! There certainly must be a connection between our families.

Here is the story of how the Dinan/Dynan name came into my research on my grandmother's family(the Crottys). My nana's oldest sister, Ellen Crotty, is listed as having at least two children with the last name of Dynan...James and William. I cannot, however, find any record of a marriage to anyone named Dinan. She then had seven children by a man named Patrick Ratchford, but, again, no record of a marriage. Either they used an alias name(ha-ha) or were never actually married. Right now I just don't know! Maybe these children with the Dinan name were someone else's who she raised, but I don't know where the answers are. Can you shed any light on this situation?

About two months ago I got an e-mail from a Daria Durling also mentioning Johanna Dinan/Dynan. She was also researching that branch of her family. Is she a sister of you? She said Johanna Sweeney Dinan was her great-grandmother. I wrote to her three times and got no answer. I can't help but wonder if something happened to her or if she just didn't want the information that I had. Please do me a favor and respond back to me at my home e-mail address so that I know that at least you read this. My address is I am in Somersworth, NH...right near our very brief shoreline area.
