Hi Sylvia. My wife has DIMMITT in her family and I have lots of information on that line. In looking over it, I see a William, b. 01/16/1740, d. 05/02/1803-05; m. Dorothy Swan, 12/14/1764. The Swans were a large family "of people calling themselves Quakers." William and Dorthy had several sons, among them, Burch Swan Dimmitt, named for his maternal grandfather, married Catherine LeGross and died at age 30, leaving only a daughterr, Louisa, who married John Foster. Children of William and Dorothy: William, b. 1765; Burch Swan b.09/29/1769; Beal 04/08/1771 Baltimore Co., died 1845, Clermont Co., Ohio, m(1) Belinda Dimmitt, a cousin, and (2) Sarah Eskridge, 1805.; James William; Catherine Ringgold; Elisha; Susan; Eleanor; Rebecca; Jacob; Joshua; unnamed child. I have this line back to importation in MD and down to present time. I don't know if she is still around, or not, but June Dimmitt Houston, 20 Oak Forest Drive, Santa Rosa, California 95405 wrote a book in 1979, "THREE HUNDRED YEARS IN AMERICA: The Family of Robert P. Dimmitt, 1847-1906." Perhaps you can obtain a copy. I will be happy to help you with what I have. I am also researchingt my wife's maiden surname, BERRY, so if you find yourself in a BERRY patch somewhere, especially MD and KY, please remember me. Thanks and good hunting. Jim
