Dilworth originated in France

The Dilworth family originated in France, coming to England at the time of William the Conqueror. They seem to have mainly settled in the North West of England, particularly around Lancashire, there being a village of Dilworth near Preston. The family name, according to early records of the fourteenth century was de Dilworth confirming the Continental origin. Family historians tell us than in 1609 or thereabouts a branch of the family settled at Killyman as part of James 1st plantation continuing to live there probably in the townland of Drumard, until the rebellion of 1641.
