Debbie,
I have these notes on Cynthia's father William:
William Dillin was born in Connecticut in 1768.He enlisted in the War of 1812 and served as Corporal in Captain Joel B. Clark's Co, 2nd Regiment, New York Detached Military from October 9, 1813 to December 15, 1813.He was discharged at Fort George, Upper Canada.
William Dillin had settled with his family in Brownville, NY in 1801.
He is buried with his wife, Matilda, in Pettet Cemetery in Brownville, NY.
"Genealogical and Family History"pg 180 records the following:
"William Dillin was born May 27, 1770, probably in the state of Connecticut. He is supposed to have resided in the vicinity of Utica, New York, whence he removed in 1800 to Brownville, bringing his family thither the following year. His first settlement was on the site of the present village of Brownville. He worked at the trade of carpenter, and in association with his brother-in-law, Edward Hawkins, built the first sawmill there for Major Brown.Subsequently he pruchased and cleared a farm located one mile north of the village, which proved a most profitable investment. He was a member of the militia during the War of 1812 and assisted in burying the dead after the Battle of Sacketts Harbor. There is a tradition in the family that his father, William Dillin, and Ned Hawkins, father of his wife, participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill, where William Dillin, senior, lost his life.William Dillin and Ned Hawkins cut the first road from Watertown to Brownville.Mrs William Dillin and a daughter, Cynthia, were precipitated into the water from a boat while crossing to Brownville, and narrowly escaped drowning. At first they were supposed to be dead, but finally were resuscitated."

Steve,
Hi I am Lisa Ecker and I have the family of William Dillin and Matilda Hawkins Dillin as an allied family to the Eckers I am doing research on in Jefferson County N. Y. While searching through some cemetery records I recently came across the graves of William and Matilda who are buried in the Pettet cemetery in Brownville, Jefferson Co. Also listed was a William Dillin b 6 Sept 1833 and died 14 Sept 1834 ae. 1 yr. 8 d. Only these three Dillins are listed. Since he was born after William had died he cannot be his son. Do you have any idea of who he could be linked to? I would appreciate any help you can give.
