My ggrandmother was Mary Ellen Stump, George W's daughter. She married James McHenry Hager of eastern Pike County, KY.
For his ancestry just do an internet search for "William Stump"; 1800.
According to cenusus records he was born ca. 1836 in Tazewell Co, VA
In the 1850 census he is there with his parents William and Mary (Polly)
IN 1860 he is in Pike County with wife Mary [A. Dillon] whom he married in 1856
Child 1, Charles, b. ca. 1856, was born in Va.
Child 2, Mary Ellen was born ca. 1859 in Pike County.
IN 1870 the same cluster is located on "Bent Branch", which I believe is in or around Phelps. george W and Mary have added
child 3, James, b 1861
child 4, George, b. 1867
child 5, Lorenzo, b. 1870
By 1880George and Mary have moved to Elk, Kanawah, WV
(An old Kanawah County history confirms this itinerary.)
the oldest children have moved out but they have added
child 6, "Price", f. b 1871 and
child 7, Jordon, b. 1875.
IN 1900 their nest is empty, but Lorenzo and Jordon are living nearby.
GW Stump died on 3 Dec. 1904 at Little Sandy, Kanawah county.
Mary Dillon has a Belcher grandmother so you get to joint the crowd struggling to connect Phoebe Isham Belcher to the Henry Isham, ggfather of Thos. Jefferson and descendant of European royalty.
Love to hear from you if you needmore.
