Robert:
I think your Mary Bowman was gd/o Isaac Bowman, who came to US in 1719. Of course, he brought 3 sons <g>: 1] George, b 1701, m. Mary Hite. d/o Joist; 2] John, b 1711, wife unknown; 3] Joseph, a minister of Dunkard faith. Served as Major with General George Rogers Clark of the Illinois Regiment and died in the service of the State of VA at Fort Pat Henry [Illinois] on 14 Aug 1779.

It is HIS son, Joseph who m. Nancy Houser and had 8 children, the 6th being Mary Bowman who m. Frederic Dillman.

Ref: History of the Roush Family, V. 2, pp 149-150.

There is another Bowman-Roush connection through Elizabeth Roush, b 1768, d/o Philip and Catharine [Kelchner] Roush, who m. in 1786 George Bowman, gdson of George Bowman of Shenandoah Valley, VA.

A reference is made to "A History of Shenandoah County, Virginia" by Dr. John W. Wayland for morre detail on the Bowman family. I do not have THAT one!

Hope this helps, and I'll check my Houser file for your Nancy.

June

PS - Somewhere I have seen a write-up on the Joist Hite family, just don;t remember where. Might check Genforum for them.
