Hi John & Mark: Just to add 'food for thought' on this question. There is much information on the Dillman family in the series of books printed by the Roush Family Association. The following is quoted from V. 2, p. 132: "Andreas Dillman was the s/o Elias Diehlman, who in turn had a son, Jacob, who had sons Jacob, Andrew, and Elias." [Now THAT would confuse anyone, right? JER] "Jacob and Andreas came to the American colonies between the years 1723 and 1730. ELIAS, THEIR BROTHER, NEVER LEFT Germany. The three sons changed the name to Dillman." [My caps above. Could THIS Elias, who never left Germany, be the one Erich swears we are NOT related to? If the above reads right, THIS Elias is a BROTHER to our Andrew, not his ancestor. JER] "Elias Diehlman was born in 1686, in the town of Nusseldorf, Wurtemberg, Germany. In the early part of the 18th Century, he moved to Illigen, Germany. The ancestors of all the Diehlmans in Germany, as well as those who came after 1723 or 1726 are of the Elias line." [Are we talking about the BROTHER? No comment from me! JER] "This Elias had a son Anthony, and his line has been compiled by Mrs. Augustus [should be Augusta] Dillman Thomas, whose mother was Isabel C. Bowman, and married Daniel D. Dillman. Mrs. Thomas published a volume "The Bowmans" [which I have a copy of - JER] in 1934, to be procured at the Congressional Library or PA State Library. The European Lineage of the Diehlmans was procured by Mrs. Thomas, from Dr. Theodore Dillman, of Berlin, and they are official records. We are indebted to her for this early history of the Dillmans (Diehlmans). [I am wondering if her ORIGINAL documents were placed with the PA State Library by chance, since that was her place of residence. Just a thought! - JER] There are at least four Roush family volumes, which I have, the last being published in 1979. If there are more, I am unaware of them, although I still belong to the Association. The books are VERY difficult to consult because of inadequate index and confusion where various lines [branches] of the family have been continued from volume to volume. However, I will be happy to share whatever knowledge can be gleaned from them with anyone interested. Enjoy! June
