Jacob Dillman served as a private in Co. E of the 99th Indiana Infantry from Aug. 15, 1862 to June 6, 1865. He signed up in Carroll County, IN. He was born Dec. 24, 1844 in Summerville, Butler County, OH, to unknown parents. Right after his discharge, on July 19, 1865, was married to Marshel Canon in Burlington, Carroll County, IN. In the fall of 1867, he and his wife moved to Madison County, IN. In 1869, they returned to Carroll County. In 1870, they moved to New London, Howard Co., IN, then in 1872, they moved to New American, Cass County, IN. In 1874, they returned to Madison County, the birthplace of his wife. In 1883, they relocated to Independence, Montgomery County, Kansas. Jacob and his wife had nine children, three of whom died in infancy. Jacob died March 12, 1922, at the age of 77, in El Dorado, Butler County, KS. At least a couple people, who knew Jacob back in Indiana, referred to him as "Conrad" Jacob Dillman.
His six children were: Mary Belle, b. March 13, 1867; William Sherman, b. Jan. 26, 1870; Myrtle Olive, b. May 11, 1873, m. Mr. Vanbern, moved to Payne Co. OK; Cora M., b. April 12, 1880; Hattie, b. July 14, 1887; and Nola (Vola?), b. May 1, 1889. Jacob Dillman is very likely related to the Jonathan Dillman, who also served in Company E. of the 99th Indiana Infantry. (Most of this information came from Jacob's pension file at the National Archives.)
