All good genealogy programs worth their salt will allow you to import or export your information in a text file called a GEDCOM (I do not remember what the letters stand for). This type of file is pretty well standardized and allows all of us to transfer our data from one program to another, keeping, not only names, births and other vital dates, spouses, children and such, but also source material, notes, addresses, the name of the person making the file, etc. It is a very versatile piece of work, and you have to blame the Mormans for it. You owe it to yourself and anyone you communicate with about genealogy to learn how to use it and distribute it. You won't get far without it.
