Julie,
We may have a common ancestor.I have an ancestral line that goes through Westmoreland County before moving on to Hancock County in Ohio and eventually to Michigan.
From the 1850 Census, Phillip Dillinger appears to be the son of John Dillinger (b abt. 1786) and Mary Ann ???.8 siblings are listed.
John is around the same age as my great-great-great-great grandfather, Daniel Dillinger (b 8/6/1787).There were some Dillingers that arrived in Westmoreland County between 1810 and 1820, two of which were widows. Phillip's father John may be a brother of Daniel's, in which case his grandfather would be Matthias Dillinger. However, I suspect that John is a cousin of Daniel's.One of the quirks of the family line is that they loved the name John and would give it to several siblings (e.g. John Henry, John George, John Jacob, etc.). Another thing that muddies up ;ineage identification is that cousins are often named exactly the same and are usually very close in age.
If your line does hook up with Matthias Dillinger, his father was Jacob (John Jacob) Dillinger (b around 1732).He lived in Lehigh County, PA and owned an oil mill at Dillingersville.John JACOB is the son of Heinrich Wilhelm Dillinger and Anna Rosina (????) who arrived on the Mortonhouse imigrating from Germany in 1728.
Daniel Dillinger
